15.06.21 Kingskettle United 2 – Jeanfield Swifts 1

In the penultimate game of the season Kingskettle hosted Jeanfield Swifts with a score to settle after being narrowly defeated by a single controversial goal a couple of weeks earlier.  It was a slow start for Kettle who found themselves one down in the fifth minute.  Kettle appeared to have resolved their inability to defend corners but there were signs of the old issues when a fifth minute corner found a free head in the middle of the area.

Kettle were still struggling to get started and both Allan and Bousie made saves off the line with Laing beaten.  The home side gathered themselves forcing Jeanfield onto the back foot creating chances with Barr testing the keeper from long range.

A 26th-minute corner saw Bousie brought down in the area leaving Crawford the chance to equalise from the spot.  The red-haired striker kept his composure to fire the penalty past the keeper to level the score.

Half Time: Kingskettle United 1 – 1 Jeanfield Swifts

Kinnear was causing all kinds of problems for Jeanfield raiding down the right-wing, winning a corner on the 53rd minute which saw Barr hit the bar directly from the corner kick.

On 58 minutes Kettle took a deserved lead when a clearance by Jeanfield landed perfectly for Crawford who rifled a shot from 35 yards over the keeper and into the net for what was surely a contender for goal of the season.

Kettle had the chance to increase the lead on 80 minutes when the Jeanfield keeper pulled down Barr in the box.  Captain Linton stepped up but his well-taken penalty was tipped onto the post by the outstretched arms of the keeper.

Full Time: Kingskettle United 2 (Crawford 26, 58) – 1  Jeanfield Swifts (5)

Man of the Match this week goes to Sandy Kinnear who just pipped two-goal hero Crawford for this week’s honour.

12.06.21 Kinross Colts 2 – Kingskettle United 0

Kingskettle started well and had the best of the first half with chances for Stewart and Cutt but neither were able to get on the score sheet.

Half Time: Kinross Colts 2 – Kingskettle United 0

The second half was more of the same with Kettle looking the most likely to score before being undone by a set-piece into the box that the away side were unable to deal with.  Still reeling from the set-piece sucker punch Kettle found themselves 2 down within a minute of the restart.

Full Time: Kinross Colts 2 (70, 71) – Kingskettle United 0

Man of the Match was David Bousie protecting the defence well in the defensive midfield role.

08.06.21 Bayside FC 2 – Kingskettle United 1

Bayside were quick off the mark and had two good chances in the first five minutes hitting the bar and forcing Laing into a good save.

It was Kettle who took the lead after eight minutes with McArthur getting on the end of an Allan corner bulleting a header in from close range.

The game was end to end with both teams making chances with one Laing save in particular a contender for save of the season.

Half Time: Bayside FC 0 - 1 Kingskettle

Bayside were level within a minute of the restart with most of the second half being played in the midfield with both teams well organised.

Bayside however got themselves in front 10 minutes from the end with Kettle unable to strike back.

Full Time: Bayside FC 2 (41, 70) - 1 Kingskettle (McArthur 8)

Man of the Match was Jaden McArthur, not only did he get the only Kettle goal but was outstanding from start to finish.

05.06.21 Kingskettle United 2 – Rothes Juniors 2

Rothes Juniors took the lead in the 6th minute when keeper Laing was unable to hold a shot leaving the Rothes player to side foot the ball into the empty net from the edge of the area.

It took Kettle less than two minutes to get back on level terms when the Rothes keeper misjudged the bounce in the box fumbling the ball leaving Cutt an empty net to score from close range.

Cutt, Barr and Crawford both had chances to complete the turn around with Crawford eventually putting Kettle in front with a shot in off the bar after great work from Barr to find him on the edge of the area.

Rothes equalised two minutes into first half injury time with the Rothes forward rounding Laing and scoring from a tight angle despite Spiers determined efforts almost keeping it out.

Half Time: Kingskettle United 2 – 2 Rothes Juniors

The second half was all Kettle and they should have been awarded a penalty shortly after half time when Crawford was brough down in the area but the referee adjudged it to have been outside the box.  Crawford himself took the free kick but couldn’t find the target.

Scott and Barr both had chances to regain the lead but were unable to make them count.

Full Time: Kingskettle United 2 (6, 40+2) – 2 Rothes Juniors (Cutt 8, Crawford 26)

Man of the Match - Ruari Barr

29.05.21 Kingskettle United 1 – Kinross Colts 2

Kingskettle started well and Crawford went close twice within the first 20 minutes but it was Kinross that took the lead on 22 minutes against the run of play.  Kinross then had a spell in control of the game going close twice before adding a second on 33 minutes.

Kettle came back in to the game and Crawford nearly cut the deficit before Allan got on the scoresheet cutting in onto his left foot curling the shot in to the top left corner right on the stroke of half time.

Half Time:  Kingskettle United 1 – Kinross Colts 2

The second half was all Kettle pushing forward in search of the equaliser with Linton, Barr and Crawford all having chances to tie the game.

Full Time:  Kingskettle United 1 (Allan) – Kinross Colts 2

Man of the match was Finn Allan who was outstanding at both ends of the pitch.

25.05.21 Jeanfield Swifts 1 – 0 Kingskettle United

Kettle started the match well and Crawford had the first chance of the game shooting wide after good work by Bousie down the right wing. Linton then went close with a free kick from the edge of the area before Crawford again could have given Kettle the lead.

Jeanfield had their first clear chance on 23 minutes with a freekick on the edge of the area which was well saved by goalkeeper Laing. It was the home team that eventually took the lead when their forward picked up the ball in midfield (actually with his hands) before winning a throw-in. With the Kettle defence still outraged at the handball decision a quick throw caught them off guard allowing Jeanfield in to score right on the stroke of half time.

Half Time: Jeanfield Swifts 1 – 0 Kingskettle United

It was all Kettle in the second half with chances for Crawford, Barr, and Taylor finding the Jeanfield goalkeeper in excellent form. As Kettle pushed forward, Jeanfield were given the chance to go two up as the referee awarded a penalty which was dubious at best.

Riley “Powerbar” Laing has saved more penalties this season than David De Gea has in his life and this was no exception with a fantastic save down to his right hand post, although he wasn’t able to hold it Linton was first to the ball to help out.

Full Time: Jeanfield Swifts 1 – 0 Kingskettle United

Man of the Match goes to captain Sam Linton who was moved into the centre of the defence due to the ever-increasing injury list. Kingskettle were the better team for long spells in the game and Linton was solid at the back throughout.

22.05.21 Rothes Juniors 6 – 1 Kingskettle United

With a squad depleted by injury and centre back McArthur just passing a late fitness test Kettle struggled to get into the game and found themselves 1-0 down after 5 minutes with Rothes Juniors finding themselves with an easy chance to shoot past keeper Laing. Only a minute later Rothes almost scored again with a shot over the bar.

After only 7 minutes McArthur limped off leaving the squad further reduced for the remainder of the game. Kettle were still unable to settle after the change and Rothes went close again shooting past the post and then again with Laing saving well with his feet.

The game was more even now, and Kettle created their first chance of the game with Crawford crossing to Linton at the back post who put his header just past. Kettle had another attack ending with Allan swinging in a dangerous cross which was well gathered by the keeper. Kettle tried their luck down the left with Rust crossing the ball into the box which was again gathered by the safe hands of the Rothes keeper.

There were further chances at both ends with Rothes finally getting a second when Kettle lost the ball in the midfield and were unable to stop the Rothers attack with a well-placed shot past Laing into the top corner. Kettle should have had the chance to cut the deficit with a stone wall penalty turned down, but all Kettle had to show for it was a yellow card for Allan.

Kettle were pushing forward now which left gaps at the back allowing Rothes to create chances with a shot over the bar and another hitting the post before a through ball split the Kettle defence leaving the Rothes forward to finish well with a shot into the top left corner.

Kettle again were on top and went close with Crawford firing the ball across the box which evaded everyone, Linton then put Barr through on goal, but he shot just wide of the post. Linton again was the playmaker putting Crawford through on the keeper who dived well at his feet to smother the ball.

Rothes made it 4-0 on the stroke of half time with another through ball beating the Kettle defence and leaving Laing with no chance.

Half Time: Rothes Juniors 4 – 0 Kingskettle United

Just after half time and it was five with Rothes benefitting from a lucky bounce leaving them with an easy chance.

Linton again found Barr with an excellent through ball who rounded the keeper but was unable to find the net from a tight angle. Crawford then picked out Barr with a cross to the back post who gave Kettle what could only be a consolation.

Rothes were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area which was neatly dispatched into the top corner with Laing unable to get across his goal restoring the Rothes five goal lead.

It was all Kettle for the rest of the game with multiple chances for Barr and Crawford with only one finding the net from Barr when Crawford picked him out at the back post.

Full Time: Rother Juniors 6 (5, 28, 40, 43, 46, 73) – 1 Kingskettle United (Barr 60)

Man of the match goes to Cody Taylor who fought hard in a game where there were few shining lights.

18.05.21 Kettlebridge United 0 – 1 West Fife

There is no love lost between these two teams, the last time they played was in a spicey “friendly” which saw West Fife finish with 9 men.  As if being scripted by the pen of a football-loving novelist the cup draw once again threw the two adversaries together in what would surely be a close fought battle for passage into the next round of the Fife cup.

Both teams started well but it was an early shock to the system for Kettle as West Fife took the lead on 5 minutes when Laing made a good save but was unable to hold on to the ball and the Fife forward was quickest to the loose ball knocking it into the net from close range.

United then had a spell of extended pressure and were unlucky not to get the equaliser forcing a number of corners which they were unable to convert.  Nathan Munro was yellow-carded for bringing down an opposition player which seemed harsh considering some of the other battles going on around the pitch.

Kettle could have equalised with Sam Linton testing the keeper from two long shots which the keeper held well.  Crawford then hit the inside of the post with their keeper left helpless, as the ball fired along the goal line.  One of the West Fife players was shown a yellow for pushing over Crawford in what could easily have been a replay of the incident in the last game which saw one of the Fife players sent for an early exit.

Half Time:  Kingskettle United 0 – 1 West Fife (5)

The first action of the second half saw West Fife winning a free kick on the edge of the area which was well saved by keeper Laing.  It was then Kettle’s turn to have a shot from a free-kick after a foul on Munro which saw a yellow handed out to the perpetrator.  Linton took the free-kick but couldn’t keep it down putting it over the bar for a goal kick.  Crawford then had a chance at the back post from an Allan corner which he volleyed well on target, the keeper was struck by the ball rather than making a save putting it out for another corner.

As Kettle pushed forward West Fife created chances as the game started to stretch with one effort being put over the bar from close range and Laing making a couple of saves from long-range efforts.  It was then the turn of the West Fife keeper to make a save as Cutt put Crawford through on goal with the keeper getting his fingertips to Crawford's lofted shot.

West Fife put a chance over the bar and then Laing pulled off a double save which proved to be their last attack of the game.  It was all Kettle from here on in with Crawford heading over from a tantalising cross from Linton.  With West Fife hanging on they were trying to stop Kettle in any way they could, giving away a number of free-kicks and corners.

Allan was peppering the Fife box with corners and free-kicks, going into the last minute and Kettle threw everyone forward into the box including keeper Laing for what surely would be the last free-kick.  Allan again put it right into the danger area with McArthur rising above everyone but he was unable to keep it under the bar.

Full Time: Kingskettle United 0 – 1 West Fife (5)

For the second game in a row Kettle find themselves on the wrong end of a 1-0 defeat but both games could easily have gone in the favour of the home team.

Nathan Munro and last weeks Man of the Match Finn Allan both had great games, but a change of formation saw Sandy Kinnear moved into a defensive midfield role in which he looked like a young Claude Makelele earning him the Man of the Match.

15.05.21 Kettlebridge United 0 – 1 Bayside

Kingskettle United welcomed Bayside to Kettle Park in the first of 3 games that could shape the rest of the season.  Bayside are one of two unbeaten teams in the division with their only draw coming against next week’s opponents Rothes Juniors.

Kettle were on top from the whistle and came close with chances for Crawford, Cutt and Barr all failing to test the keeper.  Bayside started to come into the game and had their own chances with Allan sweeping up a couple of through balls as well as keeper Laing coming out well to gather as Bayside went long at every opportunity.

The home team Started to push forward again with Crawford shooting over the bar and a tantalising free kick into the box by Allan which was held well by the Bayside keeper.  Ben Scott then had a chance after great play down the left with Barr, Crawford and Scott all involved before the keeper tipped the ball away for a corner.

Both teams made chances as Bayside hit the post with a good shot from the left of the Kettle area, Crawford shot over the bar with a long range effort on his left foot and Barr put a shot just wide of the post.

Bayside took the lead against the run of play with a long kick from the goalkeeper beating the Kettle defence leaving the forward with an easy finish to beat Laing.  The away team could have doubled their lead before half time with another long ball causing problems for the Kettle defence and a chance from a corner being struck over the bar.

Kettle could have equalised just before half time with a well struck free kick from Scott just over the bar.

Half Time: Kingskettle United 0 – 1 Bayside (32)

The first real action of the second half came on 46 minutes when a bit of pinball in the Kettle box forced Laing into a triple save to keep the score at 1-0.

It was all one-way traffic from then on with Kettle pushing for the equaliser.  Cutt, Crawford and Barr all having chances to get Kettle back on level terms.

The best chance came in the last minute as almost a carbon copy of the goal in the last game for Scott this time he was teed up by Pullen after great work by Barr down the left.  Unfortunately this time Scott was unable to find the top corner from the edge of the area.

Kettle probably deserved something from the game and can be happy with the performance if not the result.

Full Time: Kingskettle United 0 – 1 Bayside (32)

Kettlebridge coach Chris Laing lamented the loss in the after-match interview saying “We were on top on most areas out there today, Nathan Munro had his opposite number on toast.”

There were a number of contenders for Man of the Match not least the aforementioned Munro who apparently enjoys opposing players on warm bread but the award goes to Finn Allan who’s consistently solid performances often go under the radar.

11.05.21 Kettlebridge United 3 – 3 Raith Rovers

Kettlebridge started their last match brightly and were looking to do the same against a strong Raith Rovers team, it was however the away team that took the lead on four minutes as Kettle pushed forward a long ball caught out the defence leaving the Raith forward with a clear run in on goal.

Kettle could have hit back straight away as Ruari Barr tested the keeper from range with a low shot which the keeper held well.  The two differing styles made for a great spectacle as Kettle continued to play their passing game with Rovers looking to make use of their pace with quick through balls.

Raith almost doubled their lead on 10 minutes with keeper Laing beaten, full back Jamie Spiers cleared off the line putting the ball out for a corner.  They then had another chance as a free kick was given for handball within shooting distance, the free kick taker thought he had scored but Laing was equal to it throwing himself from one side of the goal to the other like a cat pouncing on a mouse.

Kettle created chances to equalise the best of which saw Crawford hit the bar after great work by Spiers down the left wing.

With Kettle looking the more likely to score, Spiers touched the ball back to the usually sure footed Laing who was unable to control the back pass letting it run over his foot leaving the Rith forward with the easiest goal he is likely to score.  TV pictures were unable to verify Laings claims that a mole popped out and headed the ball over his foot.

Things went from bad to worse as Raith went 3-0 up on 30 minutes when a clearance was knocked forward beating the offside and exposing Laing who was unable to stop the shot.

Coming up to half time and a three-goal deficit would have been harsh on Kettle but right on the stroke of half time the Raith keeper had come out and failed to clear with the ball falling to Billy Cutt 30 yards out he calmly stroked the ball in to the back of the net giving Kettle hope for the second half.

Half Time: Kettlebridge United 1 (Cutt 40) – 3 Raith Rovers (4, 26, 30)

United picked up where they left off in the first half, cutting Rovers lead to one goal on 42 minutes with Crawford scoring his 4th goal in two games.  Crawford again almost equalised before eventually Kettle got their reward on 51 minutes from some great football down the left with Barr finding Crawford in the box who held it up before laying it back to Scott arriving in the area with a powerful shot past the keeper.

With the momentum with Kettle they looked the more likely to go on and win the game with Raith’s long ball game less effective playing into the wind.  Crawford, Cutt and Barr all went close to scoring the winner but both teams had to settle for a point with Kettle being the happier of the two coming back from three down.

Full Time: Kettlebridge United 3 (Cutt 40, Crawford 42, Scott 51) – 3 Raith Rovers (4, 26, 30)

Man of the Match goes to Billy Cutt who not only started off the comeback but caused problems for the Raith Rovers defence throughout.

08.05.21 Pittenweem 1 - 3 Kettlebridge United

After a first league defeat on Tuesday night against Duloch Juniors, Kettle were desperate to get back to winning ways. With Ellis Tozer out injured Jaden McArthur joined Kinnear in the centre of the defence and Ruari Barr back from injury taking up the number 10 position that was the only two changes from Tuesday’s game.

Kettle got off to a great start scoring within the first two minutes as Lewis Brown took the ball down the left wing before a delicious cross was met by Rory Crawford guiding the ball first time past the Pittenweem keeper nestling in the back of the net.

It wasn’t long before Kettle had doubled their lead, this time with Ruari Barr the provider as he wriggled free from a congested midfield before finding Crawford with an inch perfect through ball. Crawford controlled the ball before side footing it into the net. With the wind in their favour Pittenweem Took a shot direct from centre which sailed over keeper Laing’s bar.

Kettle were in total control of the game and could have added a third on 10 minutes when Lewis Brown hit the bar with a shot from the left of the penalty area. Continuing to push forward Crawford and Brown both could have added to the score line.

Pittenweem were having a bit more of the ball and could have reduced the deficit on 28 minutes with keeper Laing pushing a well-placed shot round the post. Pittenweem also had a good chance from the resulting corner heading the ball wide of the goal. They eventually got the reward from their forward momentum with a long-range shot taking an awkward bounce, skidding off the grass in front of Laing.

The two-goal lead was restored within a minute with Brown and Crawford once again combining down the left resulting in the latter scoring a tasty back heal from close range to complete the hat-trick.

Half Time: Pittenweem 1 - 3 Kettlebridge United

The home team came out for the second half and tested keeper Laing immediately as they went through 1 on 1 but were unable to beat the keeper as he was quick off his line to smother the ball. Kettle got themselves on top again and came close with Crawford shooting over the bar and Linton testing the goalkeeper from the edge of the area.

With Kettle controlling the second half Pittenweem were reduced to set pieces and long-range efforts failing to trouble Laing apart from a brilliant double save on 48 minutes. McArthur was shown a yellow for a trip and Pittenweem were awarded a free kick for a pass back from a sliced clearance which they failed to take advantage of.

Full Time: Pittenweem 1 (35) - 3 Kettlebridge United (Crawford 1, 6, 36)

With a great team performance, there were many contenders for Man of the Match not least Rory Crawford with his hat-trick and Lewis Brown with two assists but left back Jamie Speirs takes it with a solid performance.

04.05.21 Kettlebridge 2 - 4 Duloch Juniors

After defeats in the three friendlies to some very good teams before the restart it was now into competitive action for Kettlebridge United 2005’s.

It was a scrappy start to the match with Duloch having slightly more of the ball forcing keeper Laing into action on a couple of occasions. They finally took advantage of slack play in the Kettle midfield on the 7th minute with Laing left with no chance this time.

Duloch's goal gave the home team a bit of a wakeup call and Kettle created several chances to equalise with Rory Crawford going close on a couple of occasions and captain Linton going close with a long-range free kick. Kettle finally scored a well-deserved equaliser on 21 minutes as the away goalkeeper spilled from another Crawford effort with Lewis Brown quickest to react rounding the keeper and passing the ball into the net.

They say you are never more vulnerable than when you have just scored and this was never more evident with Kettle being punished just 60 seconds after their equaliser, almost a carbon copy of the first goal with the ball given away in the midfield and the Duloch forward chipping over keeper Laing.

With Kettle struggling to get into their usual free flowing rhythm keeper Laing was kept busy sweeping behind the defence limiting clear cut chances for the visitors. Kettle were able to create chances of their own with Nathan Munro coming closest after rounding the keeper, but he was unable to find the net from a tight angle firing wide right on the half time whistle.

Half Time: Kettlebridge United 1 - 2 Duloch Juniors

After a decent start for the home team Duloch doubled their advantage on 48 minutes forcing Kettle to push forward looking to get back into the game. After forcing corner after corner, a push in the box gave Kettle the chance to reduce the deficit. Captain Sam Linton took the pressure kick himself firing left footed past the helpless keeper.

With Kettle again pushing for an equaliser, Duloch were limited to launching the ball forward with keeper Laing continuing to sweep up behind the defence. The Duloch defence were proving a hard nut to crack with clear cut chances at a premium for the home team.

As Kettle continued to push into the last minute of the game Jaden McArthur was given a straight red for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity with Captain Linton shown a yellow as both teams were involved in a bit of light-hearted pushing with a little bit of shoving. Unfortunately, MacArthur’s red card was in vain as the resulting free kick was arrowed neatly into the postage stamp corner leaving keeper Laing no chance.

Full Time: Kettlebridge United 2 (Brown 21, Linton 50(p)) - 4 Duloch Juniors (7, 22, 48, 80)

Man of the Match goes to Riley Laing as he continued to prove why he is Kettles number 1. He made some good saves when called upon but also expertly swept behind the defence.
